Matt Sanborn » Info Broken Soul
Location: Washington, DC, United States Profile: Trying to establish yourself in an unfamiliar city can be a daunting task, especially in the nightlife industry. The stiff competition, heartbreaking setbacks, and fickle patrons is enough to discourage most people, but now and then there are exeptions to this trend. Matt Sanborn is a prime example of persistance and perseverence that seems to be paying off. A native of New Mexico, his job brought him to the DC area where he would have to start from scratch. Unfazed by these obstacles, he worked quietly and tirelessly to carve a niche for himself in DC's dance music community and set himself apart from the pack. Music has always played a very prominant role in Matt's life, thanks to trumpet and saxophone lessons that he started taking at an early age. He was introduced to electronic music at the young age of 13 and was blown away by what he heard. This led to the exploration of the organic sounds of hip-hop and down tempo, which further helped to steer him toward electronic music. His parents sealed his fate when they bought him a pair of turntables for his 14th birthday. Matt had a passion to DJ and has remained focused on the dance floor ever since. Matt’s foundation in underground hip-hop production allows him to bring added flavor to the deep house table. His talent and hard work have made him a rising star on the local circuit with credits including Buzz (voted #1 club in America-URB) Stereo, Vision, v2.003, "In the Mix" radio show, Revival, Sound Off, Knee Deep. He has played with the likes of Derrick Carter, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Jeno, Rasoul, Doc Martin, and The East Coast Boogiemen. Matt’s dedication to keeping the scene alive has helped him build a strong and committed following while gaining notoriety in the extremely competitive DC house community. His sound is funky, sexy, and dubby, all while keeping a constant theme of music that’s DEEP. Meanwhile, Matt became anxious to play a more active part in shaping the nightlife community. A group of talented, like-minded, house and breakbeat djs was selected from the DC/Baltimore Metro Area, and Broken Soul was born. A new weekly called HYBRID was created to showcase and nurture the local scene. Their dedication and love for the music is evident in everything they do, especially as they continue to rock dance floors all over the East Coast. Look out for upcoming production projects in the near future. Matt possesses refined skills, a diverse crate, a vast knowledge of tracks, and that intangible connection with the dance floor that keeps bodies and souls moving, often until the wee hours of the morning.
